Claims about the Tilma and the Image

Spanish missionaries wanted to remove the name Guadalupe from the title of Our Lady of Guadalupe. 

This is true. The first Spanish Franciscan missionaries – even a religious named Brother Jeronimo Diego de Santa Maria who was from the Guadalupe monastery in Spain – wanted to downplay the name Guadalupe. Several historical documents prove that the Franciscans did not want the Virgin of Tepeyac to be called Guadalupe and that they tried to change the name
